SSG Christopher W. Swanson

Chris joined the Army in August, 1999. He completed Basic Training at Camp Benning, Ga and  was sent to Ft. Bragg, NC, where he was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 325th Infantry, of the 82nd Airborne. He spent six months in Kosovo on a peace keeping mission, and then completed his  first tour of Iraq. He then went to Baumholder with Company B, 2nd Battalion, 6th Infantry  Regiment, of the 1st Armored Division. He completed his second tour, and was on his third tour  when he was Killed In Action by a sniper while on patrol in Ramadi, Iraq. Chris was awarded  many awards to include three purple hearts, a Bronze Star, including been posthumously  awarded the Bronze Star w/Valor. 

Chris was born and raised in Maryland on the Chesapeake Bay. He loved the water, blue crabs,  the Baltimore Orioles and Ravens. He loved helping those less fortunate in the community.  Chris had the biggest heart and would always take sides with the underdog in any situation.  Chris always had a smile on his face, leading people to wonder if he was just that good natured  or up to something. While he liked to push the limits, but never getting into any real trouble.  Chris was active in community sports programs, and throughout his school years he played  soccer, baseball, and basketball.
